Hypocricy
I was just reading some quotes from the Gosselin's and the McCaughey's. They both chose not to selectively abort any of the babies they were carrying saying that it was "in God's hands". While I completely agree with them on that point, isn't it a bit hypocritical coming from the mouths of people who spent presumably tens of thousands of dollars to conceive, when an inability to do so naturally should imply God's Will as well?

Excellent point. I have a problem with this whole concption by docs thing anyway. I guess I would be for it if I could not have conceived the old fashion way. I just don't think it is God's will to have multiples like that.
ReplyDeleteAgreed... and I have never had to deal with an inability to conceive either, so I can't say what I would do in those shoes... but I also know that there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of children in the world who need good, loving, caring homes... why not adopt if "God's Will" is not to have one of your own?
ReplyDeleteIt is also contrary to Christian morals to use artificial forms of conception, just as it is to use artificial forms of contraception. So how do Catholics who won't abort, (good) end up using in vitro fertilization? (bad)
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that it's God's will that they not conceive. I've personally been in this boat and after the second time, I feel that God wouldn't have let In Vitro Fertiization work if I wasn't meant to be a mom. I also don't believe that my son, and son on the way would be so perfect if God felt that I was doing something wrong.
ReplyDeleteHardebb makes a good point when they say they "guess" they would be for it if they couldn't have conceived the old fashioned way. That's true.
Da Hunks mentions adoption but I ask why am I not allowed to have my own child, with my own genes, if I have a uterus.
I completely disagree with Father Gregory and I wonder if Aartificial forms of conception are wrong, then what about vaccinations and "chemicals' That treat disease.
If I'm to believe these comments, I'd think that when I had to have my fallopian tubes removed because I had cancer, that was God telling me not to have children, however, in order to save my life, I allowed Doctors to do the medications and chemicals necessary to save my life. Since I did that, there's no way for me to have children through natural conception. But I ask, if I'm willing to go to doctors adn get treated and get checkups, why not get pregnant. If my God didn't want it to happen, he wouldn't let it happen so perfectly. My God does not believe in "conditional" love, so what I've done is not "bad". There's 2 perfect children that can vouch for that.
But you're hipocrocy comment makes sense, M. :)
